OCCC Welcomes Accreditation Peer Evaluation Team October 26–28
Oregon Coast Community College will welcome a team of peer evaluators from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) to its Newport Campus Monday through Wednesday, October 26–28, as part of the College’s Year Seven Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness.
Although OCCC is celebrating 40 years of service to Lincoln County, the College achieved independent accreditation in February 2020. This month’s visit marks an important milestone in OCCC’s first seven-year accreditation cycle as an independently accredited institution.
Accreditation is a process through which colleges and universities demonstrate that they meet established standards for educational quality, student success, institutional effectiveness, and financial stability. Every seven years, accredited institutions undergo a comprehensive evaluation to demonstrate that they continue to meet these standards and are making progress toward fulfilling their missions.
During their three-day visit, the NWCCU evaluation team will meet with College leadership, faculty, staff, and students, reviewing OCCC’s programs, services, operations, and efforts to support student achievement. The visit follows months of institutional self-evaluation and preparation by College employees.

An important part of the evaluation process is hearing directly from members of the College community. Three open forums have been scheduled to provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to share their experiences and perspectives with the visiting team.
