Mythology: Heroes & TrickstersMosaïque_dUlysse_et_les_sirènes

You’re invited to join a multi-cultural event, an introduction to heroes and tricksters from mythology and folklore. We will become acquainted with Beowulf, King Arthur, Thor, Gilgamesh, Rama, Hercules, Odysseus, and Oedipus, reading and marveling at their heroic escapades and learning about Joseph Campbell’s theory of the “Hero with 1000 Faces.” When we turn to tricksters, Raven, Coyote, Anansi, Loki, Prometheus, and Brer Rabbit will be on the agenda. Zeus himself may show up, too. There will be no homework, and no exams – just good discussion and a few videos to enhance our experience.

INSTRUCTOR: SHARON BEARDSLEY
