SBDC Launches First-Ever Nonprofit Management Program
A Nine-Month Training Series Designed to Strengthen Local Nonprofits
For more than 30 years, the Oregon Coast Community College (OCCC) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has helped small business owners across Lincoln County build sustainable enterprises. Now, for the first time, the SBDC is extending this expertise to local nonprofit organizations through the Nonprofit Small Business Management Program, a nine-month series designed to equip nonprofit leaders with the tools and strategies they need to strengthen and grow their organizations.
Launching on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, this program will feature expert-led sessions on topics critical to nonprofit success, including strategic planning, fundraising, board development, financial management, and marketing. Each session will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon at the OCCC North County Center in Lincoln City, with an option for directors to bring a board member to select sessions.
“This program is an important step toward ensuring the long-term success of Lincoln County’s nonprofit community,” said Gregory Price, Director of the OCCC SBDC. “Nonprofits play a vital role in our region, yet they often operate with limited resources and staff. By providing tailored, expert-led training, we aim to help nonprofit leaders navigate challenges, maximize their impact, and create sustainable organizations that serve our community for years to come.”
Program Highlights
Among the program’s powerful speakers will be Tammy Zonker, a nationally recognized expert in non-profit fundraising, but the SBDC has reached out to local experts with experience running nonprofits right here in Lincoln County as well to add balance and breadth to the program. Each monthly session will focus on a key area of nonprofit management, providing practical insights and actionable takeaways, including:
- Foundations of Nonprofit Success – Understanding legal requirements, mission alignment, and organizational structure.
- Strategic Planning for Impact – Creating a roadmap for long-term success with SMART goals and SWOT analysis.
- Fundraising & Grant Writing – Developing effective fundraising strategies, writing successful grant proposals, and building donor relationships.
- Board Development & Governance – Strengthening board leadership and ensuring accountability.
- Financial Management & Budgeting – Understanding nonprofit financial reporting, tax considerations, and budget development.
- Final Case Study & Strategic Plan Presentations – A capstone session where participants present their strategic and marketing plans, applying what they’ve learned.
