Oregon Coast Community College is excited to announce the return of its Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in emergency medical services. This program offers essential training for individuals seeking to serve their communities as first responders.
In rural communities, where travel times to hospitals can be significant, EMTs deliver essential care on-site and during transport. They are often the backbone of local emergency services, supporting fire departments, volunteer rescue squads, and rural health systems. From car accidents on remote highways to medical crises in isolated homes, EMTs ensure that residents receive timely, professional care.
OCCC’s Basic EMT class will provide students with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to respond to medical emergencies, stabilize patients, and provide life-saving care in pre-hospital settings. Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam, opening doors to employment opportunities in ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals, and other healthcare settings.
This is a two-term course starting January 5, 2026, at the Oregon Coast Community College North County Center in Lincoln City. Applications close December 31, 2025.
“OCCC is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of our coastal communities,” said Dr. Crystal Bowman, Dean of Nursing & Allied Health. “This program not only trains students in emergency response but also strengthens the resilience of our region by ensuring skilled responders are available when every second counts.”
Enrollment is now open, and space is limited. For more information or to register, visit oregoncoast.edu/emt or contact Dr. Bowman at Crystal.Bowman@oregoncoast.edu.
