Public Service Loan Forgiveness

  • The PSLF Program cancels the remaining balance – which includes balances of interest and principal – on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.

OCCC Staff Can Qualify by:

  • Working for a qualifying employer.
  • OCCC is a qualifying employer.
  • Other organizations may qualify as well.
  • Working full-time at a qualifying employer.
  • You may combine your hours from multiple qualifying employers.
  • Part-time work at a qualifying employer.
  • Hours earned towards repayment will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.
  • Have Direct Loans or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan.
  • Repay your loans under an income-driven repayment plan.
  • Make 120 qualifying payments.


OCCC Faculty Qualifications:

Oregon Senate Bill 1572 states, for the purposes of public service loan forgiveness, a faculty member is considered full time at a community college or university if they, “engage in 30 or more full-time equivalent work hours per week, with each hour of lecture time or classroom time constituting 4.35 full-time work hours.”

If part-time faculty work less than 30 or more hours per week, their earned hours towards repayment will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.

When ready for submission, you can utilize the PSLF application (see “additional resources” below), to have page 2 of the form completed by OCCC as your employer. If a current employee, please email the form from your work email account to: joy.gutknecht@oregoncoast.edu. Please include in the subject line your Name, PSLF form, and date. Example: Waverly O’Shark, PSLF Form, 012791. This ensures we are able to identify each applicant. Forms will be emailed back to the work email account the request was received from.
