Intro to Irish Session Tunes
Learn to play Irish session music; the cool kids call it “trad.” Local musicians Gary Burman and Nora Sherwood will help you embark on your “trad” music journey with the goal of eventually being able to keep up in an Irish session. This class is for people who are still learning to play their instruments proficiently. To help you accomplish this, it will move at a slow pace, and emphasize listening skills. Sheet music and recordings will be provided for practicing at home. Open to all acoustic instruments appropriate for Irish session music, like penny whistle, flute, fiddle, banjo, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, button box accordion, concertina, etc.

Irish Session Tunes for Experienced Players
Continuing the Irish “trad” journey, local musicians Gary Burman and Nora Sherwood will teach Irish dance tunes that are commonly played in traditional Irish sessions. This is a great class for people who are experienced and proficient on their instruments, such as fiddle, flute, mandolin, penny whistle, banjo, button box accordion, etc. The emphasis will be on learning by ear and playing at a faster pace. Sheet music and recordings will be provided for practicing at home. A new tune will be taught each week.

Irish Steps Class
This class will focus on solo steps that are the precursor to the modern, competitive style popularized by “Riverdance.” This class will be more challenging than the social dancing class, mostly because the steps are intricate, and require the ability to get your feet to do what your brain tells them to do. It’s not extremely physically challenging, as these steps are danced by people well into their 80’s in Ireland, but some low-level hopping about will definitely be involved, so balance and a little stamina will be needed. We will focus on both sean-nós steps (mostly spontaneous and in response to music) and old style set dances (choreographed). A sense of rhythm and at least some background in dance will be very helpful. Any kind of flat, well-fitting shoe like an Oxford is fine.
INSTRUCTOR: NORA SHERWOOD • 7 SESSIONS • JAN. 27-MARCH 17 • MONDAYS, 5:30-6:30PM • $70 • LINCOLN CITY CULTURAL CENTER

Irish Dancing for Adults
If you love music and dance, this is for you. Folks in Ireland are cradle-to-grave dancers, and there’s something for everyone! This class will focus on the social (ceili, pronounced “kay-lee”) dances, and is for adults who love dance and music, but might not have the knees, ankles, and stamina of a 14-year-old. You do need to have enough strength and balance to handle some skipping around and a little sweating. A sense of rhythm and some background in dance, gymnastics, ice skating, etc. (anything where you had to string some movements together) will be helpful, but not necessary. Any kind of flat, well-fitting shoe like an Oxford is fine.
INSTRUCTOR: NORA SHERWOOD • 7 SESSIONS • JAN. 27 TO MARCH 17 • MONDAYS, 6:30-7:30PM • $70 • LINCOLN CITY CULTURAL CENTER

Clutter Clearing
What is inside us, reflects externally. Or is it the other way around? In any case, if you are living in chaos, it doesn’t feel good and reflects in your life. We use several techniques to help you clear away external blocks to help you release those internal blocks which prevent you from living your life, your way. Using guided meditations as well as practical lists of sorting, purging, and releasing to guide you to clear unwanted, unneeded energy and STUFF from your home to create the life you desire. This class is not your typical get rid of things you don’t need and then you end up with the same mess all over again class. This program is designed to help you get to the core of how to have the “things” you want to keep and how to release things that don’t serve you any longer. Join us for a clutter clearing class unlike you have ever heard of. A little energy clearing work, a little (or a lot!) physical homework, and a new feeling of space at the end of our time together.

EQ: Emotional Intelligence
As we journey through life, we discover that every day brings with it the ups and downs of challenges, unknowns, “why did this or that happen,” and “if I only knew better, I might have changed my response or interacted a bit differently in a situation.” We can all relate. Stewart Brannen has been teaching emotional intelligence courses at universities and colleges throughout the United States and Canada for more than 15 years. As a life coach, his students have included senior-level executives, househusbands and housewives, public officials, married and dating couples, educational specialists, and people just wanting to learn more about themselves and the human world that we live and interact in. In this term’s EQ class, Brannen will guide participants through a deeper dive of enriching self-awareness which leads to the outward path of relationship management. The group will discover how, and where, energy flows in and out of our heads and hearts, and learn how to positively elevate their own personal vibration through emotional intelligence applications in our daily lives.
