Clackamas President Runs for Students
June 11, 2025
Newport—If you’ve ever considered teaching a class based on a skill, favorite subject, passion, or hobby, now’s the perfect time to give it a shot. OCCC is currently calling for Community Education class proposals from artists, tinkerers, and everyday experts eager to share what they love—no teaching experience required. Selected classes will be offered as part of the college’s Fall 2025 Community Education lineup.
Community Education empowers you to make a difference by turning your know-how into hands-on, skill-building experiences that foster lifelong learning. In recent years, we’ve offered everything from Intro to Boat Building to Mushroom Foraging, and from Turkish History & Culture to Gyotaku Fish Printing. And, community ed courses can be lively and fun, such as past classes on hip-hop dancing, or our “Speakeasy Series,” which featured a trio of classes covering Home Brewing, the History of Jazz, and How to Play Craps.
Our instructors set their own schedules, choose their locations, and decide exactly how they want to teach. That might mean leading a one-day workshop or multi-week series at any of our locations, or running an off-site class like last spring’s bike repair course at Green Bike Co-Op.
“Teaching at OCCC has been a joy—supportive staff, curious students, and a real sense of community,” says Paul Robertson, Community Education Instructor
