ART102: Understanding Visual Arts

Understanding Visual Arts starts with a big, open-ended question: “What is art?”

The Visual Arts is beyond the matter of beauty. To understand pieces in depth, we will see them holistically from both creator’s and audience’s views. Students will develop interpretation skills with knowledge of art history and art appreciation by learning how to analyze visual information. Visual information should be investigated in context of historical and social narratives, not limited to artists’ individual backgrounds. Sharing own thought in the class will lead students to understand the roles of Visual Arts associated with own lives deeply.

This course will springboard students’ lifelong curiosity and enrich their lives more fully.
