JPN261: Japanese Culture

This course will be a great gateway to explore other cultures. The instructor who grew up in Japan gives an introduction of Japanese culture, history and social issues. Throughout this course, students watch slideshows along with explanations and videos to avoid fetishized image of Japan; also, students are encouraged to share their own thoughts on learning topics. Japanese culture seems very unique in a way but at the same time it associates with other cultures deeply in the context of East Asian and global culture. You will see why in this course. This course is a hybrid of self-paced study online  and in-person sessions:

Tuesday 6:00-7:10 pm, Newport campus #42 with live-stream option.

If students can’t join in the session either In-Person or Zoom, instructor is able to arrange alternative methods. Please contact in advance at sachiko.otsuki@oregoncoast.edu
