Oregon Coast Community College has welcomed several new staff members to its Student Affairs team in time for the fall term, including two new Student Success Coaches, a Student Affairs Office Coordinator, and a Male Student Success Program Coordinator.
Jose Hernandez and Becky York are new to the Student Success Coach team. Committed to helping students plan their educational journey at OCCC, Hernandez has been promoted to Student Success Coach after working as a Bilingual Outreach Coordinator. He will work with students pursuing Associate of Science Oregon Transfer (ASOT) in Business, AAS Accounting, AAOT, and Associate of General Studies degrees, as well as Accounting Certificates. York, a new hire at OCCC, will work with students pursuing Nursing and Allied Health programs. She comes from a ten-year career in corporate recruiting and, most recently, substitute teaching. She is looking forward to helping students reach their collegiate goals.
Joshua Kamp is a Male Student Success Program Coordinator. His position will include outreach for success and retention of male students. He also plans to begin a mentorship program and host events and spaces for male students to find support and community at OCCC. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in Fall 2021, male students made up just 42 percent of all college students, and the trends point to continued drops in college enrollment for male students (2-year and 4-year institutions).
Kamp is looking forward to becoming a mentor to students and paying forward the help he received to get where he is today. He was previously an administrative assistant at Regional Arts and Culture Council, a nonprofit that supports underrepresented artists in the greater Portland area.
Ace Brewer is the new Student Affairs Office Coordinator. He replaces Kira Woosley, who has taken a new position as an Enrollment Specialist at OCCC. Brewer comes from a position with Pacific Coast Pianos, where he provided business support and customer service. He is looking forward to connecting with students as fall term begins. Woosley is also looking forward to her new role, while supporting Student Affairs in a new capacity. She will be working closely with the Registrar and supporting enrollment and admissions tasks.
“As we embark on a new academic chapter, I am proud to welcome our latest and newly promoted qualified and student-centered staff,” said Dr. Andres Oroz, Vice President of Student Affairs. “Their dedication to the intellectual growth and development of our students will undoubtedly shape a brighter future for our college and those we serve.”
